In the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park, just off the coast of Kota Kinabalu, lies the island of Pulau Gaya. For a taste of Japan, head to Omakase, where your choice of teppanyaki, shabu-shabu or nabe is prepared by the talented chef. You can enjoy a refreshing cocktail or light lunch at the casual Pool Bar and Lounge, or perhaps have lunch at the private Tavajun Bay which is reached by a five minute boat ride.
Our Opinion
A new resort which opened in 2012, set within the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park on the island of Kota Kinabalu, a seamless combination of luxury and nature. Fabulous for spa lovers and nature lovers alike.
Location
Located off the coast of Kota Kinabalu in Borneo, set within the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park. The resort is 30 minutes by road from Kita Kinabalu Airport.
Accommodation
Set within the rainforest and mangroves, the resort is made up of 120 modern villas that have been built using the finest locally-sourced materials. The Bayu Villas sit on a gentle hillside just a short walk from the beach, whilst the Canopy Villas are set higher up in the forest and feature superb views. A stay in the Kinabalu Villas means a bit of extra climbing, but offers stunning stretching views of the glittering South China Sea, whilst the extremely spacious two-level Suria Suite is perfect for families or groups. 120 villas and 1 suite

Canopy Villa – Found in the dense rainforest, offering views of the forest canopy or overlooking the mangroves, air-conditioning, kingsize bed, terrace with daybed, bathroom with oversize bath and

Kinabalu Villa – These villas have views of the sea toward the city of Kota Kinabalu and, on a clear day Mount Kinabalu, air-conditioning, kingsize bed, terrace with daybed, bathroom with oversize bath and separate shower, 47sqm in size.
Suria Suite – Perched on the hillside, offering uninterrupted ocean views. Split-level suite, air-conditioning, two bedrooms each with kingsize bed and ensuite, outdoor veranda with daybeds, outdoor bath, private dining room, lounge and TV room, private balcony and 188sqm in size.
Leisure & Activities
The Spa Village provides an idyllic location amongst the mangroves and offers a wide range of spa programmes. The secluded Spa Village is set in the mangrove forest and offers complete serenity. There are six treatment rooms, outdoor decks and space for yoga. Treatments are inspired by the cultural healing practices of Sabahs indigenous people and there is also yoga, guided meditation and stretching sessions.
For the more adventurous, there are a variety of creative activities on offer which encompass the islands fascinating culture, natural beauty and captivating wildlife and marine life. Swimming pool, kids activity programme, dive and watersports centre, fitness centre, Yoga and guided meditation, Nature walks and cultural excursions, Snorkelling and diving programmes, Head out on an enchanting sunset cruise, The Borneo Culinary Journey and craftworks.
Restaurants & Bars
The main restaurant Feast Village is located close to the hotels lap pool and offers a selection of Asia-Pacific region and Western cuisine for breakfast, lunch and dinner. For a taste of Japan, head to Omakase, where your choice of teppanyaki, shabu-shabu or nabe is prepared by the talented chef. The rooftop terrace restaurant Fishermans Cove is where you can enjoy the freshest seafood alongside sea views in a peaceful and elegant adults-only setting. At the Pool Bar and Lounge cocktails and other alcoholic beverages as well as non-alcoholic drinks and light lunchtime snacks are served. You dont even have to leave the pool to order a drink as the lounge features a swim-up bar. For a special experience you can enjoy lunch or pre-order a gourmet picnic basket at Tavajun Bay which is reached by a 5-minute boat ride from the resort. A host of unique private dining experiences have been created with gourmet menu selections and set up around beautiful locations.
